O knihe
Our aim is to create a platform for scholarly exchange not only within the Czech Republic but internationally. We seek original articles that explore a wide range of issues concerning American and British literature, visual arts, music and other cultural phenomena as well as cultural history. The editors encourage submissions from scholars working in various disciplines with interests in American and British cultures, as well as articles with interdisciplinary perspectives on those cultures. We also devote a portion of the journal to outstanding student contributions. Since 2011, the journal has been enlisted in The National Index of Peer-reviewed Scholarly Periodicals published in the Czech Republic.-br- -br--br- AMERICAN AND BRITISH STUDIES ANNUAL (ABSA) je odborný recenzovaný časopis založený v roce 2008 na Katedře anglistiky a amerikanistiky Fakulty filozofické Univerzity Pardubice. V současné době vychází jako ročenka zaměřená na široké spektrum témat amerických a britských kulturních a literárních studií. Cílem časopisu je vytvořit vědeckou a publikační základnu nejen v rámci České republiky, ale i mezinárodně. Časopis otiskuje dosud nepublikované odborné články v anglickém jazyce týkající se různých aspektů amerických a britských kulturních dějin, britské a americké literatury, výtvarného umění, hudby a dalších kulturních jevů a rovněž recenze nových knižních publikací v oboru. -br- Články: -br- Jiří Flajšar-br- Richard Hugo on Skye: Tragicomic Poetry of the Self-br- -br--br- Stanislav Kolář-br- Relocated from an Elevator to a Cattle Car: Intergenerational Transmission of Trauma in Thane Rosenbaum’s Elijah Visible-br- -br--br- Ivan Lacko-br- Tracey Scott Wilson’s Buzzer and the Myth of Post-racial America-br- -br--br- Roman Trušník-br- Coming Out in an Alternative World in Marion Zimmer Bradley’s The Heritage of Hastur and Sharra’s Exile-br- -br--br- Michaela Weiss-br- “Daddies” in Controversial Memoirs and Confessions: Laurie Sandell and Sylvia Plath-br- -br--br- Olga Boinitska-br- A Bridge over the Waterland: Linking the Past with the Present in Graham Swift’s Ever After-br- -br--br- Petr Chalupský-br- The Might and Glory of the City Celebrated – London’s Theatricality in Peter Ackroyd’s The Clerkenwell Tales-br- -br--br- Janka Kaščáková-br- “The greatest of all garden parties” – the Great War, Memory and Myth in Katherine Mansfield’s Critical Writing 1910s-br- -br- Ivona Mišterová-br- Space, Time and Poker: Symbolic and Actual Relocation in Dealer’s Choice-br- -br--br- Petra Smažilová-br- Women Playwrights in the Suffrage Era-br- -br--br- Alice Sukdolová-br- Crossing the Boundary: The Space of Hardy’s Wessex Novels-br- -br--br- Alice Tihelková-br- Portrayal of the North-South Divide in the British Press-br- -br--br- Zuzana Husárová, Bogumiła Suwara-br- Literature Coded for Marked Quick Response-br- -br--br--br- Studentské příspěvky:-br- Ewelina Chiu-br- Hyperreality and Consumer Society—J.G Ballard’s Kingdom Come-br- -br--br- Kristýna Pípalová-br- “Father, You’re Driving Me Mad”: Transmission of Trauma in Spiegelman’s Maus-br- -br--br- Šárka Svitáková-br- Fear in the Works of Edgar Allan Poe and Howard Phillips Lovecraft-br- -br- Monika Tekielová-br- Orthodox Judaism through the Eyes of Women Characters in Rebecca Goldstein’s Mazel-br- -br--br--br- Recenze:-br- Richard A.
